New York Giants predicted to bolster offensive line with star-caliber OT

The New York Giants will begin the 2025 NFL season with an offensive line that at least feels like it has a chance to be much better than it was last year.

Andrew Thomas’s healthy return is the biggest reason why, and there’s intrigue around Evan Neal, who, to date, has been a first-round bust, kicking inside to guard.

John Michael Schmitz is being counted on to have a breakout season, while Jon Runyan is at least serviceable. Jermaine Eluemunor is an underrated right tackle, while Greg Van Roten continues to defy Father Time as he enters what’s expected to be a training camp competition with Neal.

But if there’s one common thread between all of those players — excluding Thomas — it’s that none of them are building blocks who the Giants can count on as they enter an era that should feature a new, young quarterback in Jaxson Dart.

Reliable pass protection is more important than ever; a failing offensive line will up the odds that the rookie quarterback fails, too, and with GM Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll both on the hot seat this year, it’s something the tandem can’t afford.

Unfortunately, the only chance this team will have to finally add a blue-chip offensive lineman is the 2026 NFL Draft, and we don’t know whether Schoen will be the guy in charge of making that pick.

Regardless, and in a new 2026 NFL mock draft, New York does land a franchise-caliber offensive tackle in Utah’s Spencer Fano.

“Technician in both pass protection and against the run,” CBS Sports’ Ryan Wilson wrote. “Played in primarily zone scheme and fit it perfectly because of mix of athleticism and power. Technically sound run blocker who wins with power/balance.”

Fano would change the perception of the Giants’ offensive line on several levels. Not only does he have the blue-chip stuff needed to excel in the NFL, he also has a nasty demeanor that will intimidate opposing defenders. Big Blue needs a guy like that.

It’s early, and, of course, Giants fans are hoping New York isn’t picking in the top five again in 2026. But if they are, expect a prospect like Spencer Fano to rank high on their wish list.
