Mavericks could target $80 million point guard with Dante Exum drawing interest overseas

The Dallas Mavericks are seeking help at point guard, with Kyrie Irving expected to miss most of the 2024-25 season.

Their current rotation is in question, especially with point guard fan-favorite Dante Exum is receiving interest from teams overseas.

If Exum departs, Lorenzo Almanza of FanSided’s The Smoking Cubans suggested that the Mavericks could target Chicago Bulls point guard Lonzo Ball as a potential replacement.

“So with Exum and the Mavs parting ways, Dallas needs a point guard to help the show. One possible candidate to replace Exum is Lonzo Ball, Almanza wrote. “His experience at the point guard could be the perfect ingredient for a team desperately needing a guard. Dallas has expressed interest in trading for Ball, and there are reasons why Dallas should acquire him.”

Exum, who was the No. 5 pick of the Utah Jazz in 2014, emerged as a valuable rotation player throughout his time with the Dallas Mavericks; however  his possible exit could create a need for more depth at the point guard position. position

The Mavericks are reportedly eyeing several veteran guards, with Ball among the names on their radar.

Ball signed a two-year $20 million extension with the Chicago Bulls last season. He played a pivotal role in helping the team reach the NBA Play-In Tournament, where they ultimately fell to the Miami Heat.

Although injuries have marred his Stint in Chicago, Ball remains a talented point guard who can provide the Mavericks with stability and a defensive edge at the position while Irving recovers, helping the Dallas Mavericks stay competitive in a tightly contested Western Conference.
