After hitting a few bumps along the road, Lionel Messi and Inter Miami are back to winning ways in 2025, following two consecutive MLS victories.
Inter Miami bagged an impressive 5-1 win against Columbus Crew at Chase Stadium on May 31, as Messi scored a brace and provided two assists.
By creating multiple goal contributions in one match, Messi now recreated one of his own records, for the first time since October 2022 as it marked the 13th time he’s achieved this feat in his club career and the first time at Inter Miami.
Despite his consistency for the Herons, uncertainties about his future in Florida remain, with his contract expiring at the end of 2025.
And now, the Saudi Pro League have once again expressed a keen interest in signing the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner.
Will the Saudi Pro League sign Messi?
After Messi parted ways with Paris Saint-Germain in 2023, Saudi clubs were heavily interested in signing him, as part of a frantic transfer scramble.

While the 37-year-old eventually opted for Inter Miami instead, the SPL can see another opportunity to acquire his signature, if they are quick off the mark.
The Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund has recently resumed verbal talks with Messi, according to TEAMtalk. The report also mentioned they will explore their options in the coming weeks, and while nothing is confirmed, the situation is developing.

What did Lionel Messi say about joining the Saudi Pro League?
In December 2023, Messi told TIME Magazine [comments via TEAMtalk] he did consider a move to Saudi before join Inter Miami.
“I was thinking a lot about going to the Saudi league. I know the country, and they have created a very powerful competition that can become an important league in the near future.
“As the country’s tourism ambassador, it was a destination that attracted me, especially because I’ve enjoyed everything I have visited there. Football is also growing in the country and because of the effort they are putting into creating a top competition. It was Saudi Arabia or MLS, and both options seemed very interesting to me.”
Next up for Messi and Inter Miami is their opening game at the Club World Cup, against Egyptian side Al Ahly on June 14, at Hard Rock Stadium, Florida.
