Bears predicted to finally cut disappointing 2023 draft pick

The Chicago Bears made some big changes to their offense, starting with hiring Ben Johnson. His new vision of the team and offense may not include some players from the old regime.

The Bears drafted Luther Burden III, but also signed Olamide Zaccheaus and Devin Duvernay. Their wide receiver room has gotten crowded, and FanSided’s Terrence Jordan believes Tyler Scott “won’t survive” roster cuts.

“Burden is sidelined at the moment with what Ben Johnson called a soft tissue injury, but he’s expected to be the starting slot receiver once the season starts,” wrote Jordan. “That’s a role that was occupied by another rookie last year, Rome Odunze. Odunze has been impressive already in stepping up to second on the depth chart behind DJ Moore, with many expecting a monster year from him.

“With Zaccheaus and Duvernay splitting WR4 reps, there doesn’t seem to be a place for Tyler Scott. The former fourth-round pick was practically nonexistent last year, catching only one pass after reeling in just 17 in his rookie season. It feels kind of miraculous that he’s still on the roster, but unless he somehow wows the new coaching staff between now and the end of training camp, there’s no way he’ll stick around.”

Scott had 17 catches for 168 yards as a rookie. However, in 2024, he recorded just one catch, and now there is a new vision in Chicago. The team clearly does not trust him much, as they added three receivers in the offseason. Scott will have to shine through camp and the preseason even to be considered for the 53-man roster.

Scott is just 23 years old, but it’s time for the Bears to move on. The fourth-round pick has not provided the Bears much of anything and has overall been a disappointing selection. Johnson is expected to make big changes to the offense, and is likely to give opportunities to players he had a say in bringing in.
