As fans of the NBA know, the NBA all-star game and weekend have taken a big step back over the past few years.
The Saturday night events aren’t as fun as they used to be and the all-star game itself lacks competition.
On Monday, Giannis shared an idea on X that the NBA should implement and replace the current all-star game with going forward.

What did Giannis suggest?
Giannis quote tweeted a post from another user that showed a graphic of a ‘Team USA’ starting five and a ‘Team World’ starting five.
The previous debate on the original tweet was purely about which starting five would win in a seven-game series, but Giannis decided to expand on the post and make a good suggestion.

Giannis went on to say this:
This should be next year All Star Game format!! Must see basketball
Now, Giannis probably isn’t the first person to suggest a format like this, but hearing one of the NBA’s biggest names be for a new format like this could be what moves the needle.
We have seen the NHL implement a new change in 2025, having the four-nations faceoff tournament.

This new replacement for the all-star weekend this year in the NHL did really well, with people tuning in who weren’t even big hockey fans.
There are downsides to this because players took it very seriously which led to some major injuries, but it was good for the overall product of the league.
If the NBA could implement a USA vs. World format for the all-star game like they have with the Rising Stars games in the past, maybe that can get players more interested in showing more effort with some bragging rights on the line.
A big name like Giannis being pro-change could be enough to get the attention of Adam Silver, and we could very well see some change with the format next year.
