After wrapping up the 2024/25 Premier League season on May 25, with a 2-0 win at Fulham, third place was secured for Manchester City.
Pep Guardiola’s side have endured their share of struggles in 2025, including injury woes and elimination from key competitions, as they fought to achieve their aim of securing a spot in the UEFA Champions League for next season.
However, their underwhelming form means several squad exits are now expected in the months ahead, with Guardiola offering a fresh update on the fate of Jack Grealish.
Grealish has drastically slipped down Guardiola’s pecking order over the last two seasons and the Catalan’s recent comments on the club’s record signing have brewed more uncertainty about his future at the Etihad Stadium.
What did Pep Guardiola say about Jack Grealish’s Man City future?
Grealish arrived at Etihad from Aston Villa in 2021, for a reported fee of £100m [$135m] and established himself as a key player in Guardiola’s squad. However, the last two years have witnessed a significant reduction in his time on the pitch for City.
The former Villa captain started 16 of the 32 appearances he made for City in 2024/25. During his post-match press conference, Guardiola was asked about the 29-year-old’s omission from the squad at Fulham and what lies ahead for him.

Guardiola referred to the winger as an ‘unbelievable player,’ but suggested he may need to consider other options, if he wants to play regularly.
“It was selection. The last two months, month and a half there were five or six players at home every time and this time I decided for these guys. No more than that,” Guardiola told ESPN.
“Of course Jack has to play. He’s an unbelievable player that has to play football every three days. It didn’t happen this season and last season either. He needs to do it. With us or in another place. It’s a question for Jack, his agent and the club.”
While Grealish’s current City contract is valid until the summer of 2027, it remains to be seen if he decides to move away from City to secure more consistent minutes on the pitch in 2025/26.
