The Texas Rangers are struggling at the moment. They are 26-28 and sit in third place in the American League West, four games behind the first place Seattle Mariners.
One of their key needs as the trade deadline approaches in the next few months is bullpen help. The bullpen has mostly performed well, but they do not have a surefire closer in their mix.
This is something they should be looking into at the trade deadline.
Josh Jacobs of Redbird Rants listed St. Louis Cardinals closer Ryan Helsley as a potential option for Texas.
“If you look around baseball, there are already multiple teams in desperate need of bullpen upgrades, and that list will likely grow as the trade deadline approaches. The Diamondbacks, Phillies, Rangers, and Cubs are the most obvious examples right now, and at least three of those teams seem like they’d have interest in Helsley,” Jacobs wrote.

Helsley saved 49 games last season for St. Louis, setting a franchise record and earning National League Reliever of the Year honors.
This year, he is 2-0 with a 3.50 ERA and has recorded 10 saves with the Cardinals.
The Rangers have the prospect capital to get a deal done, and would be able to send some intriguing pieces back to St. Louis to help them restock their farm system.
This would also give the Rangers a great chance to fight back to the top spot in the AL West. An All-Star closer would significantly strengthen their bullpen.
It will certainly be interesting to see where things stand at the deadline and if Texas decides to make a play for Helsley.
