Giants predicted to cut ties with $8 million star via trade

The New York Giants just signed Jameis Winston to a two-year deal, but that hasn’t stopped the rumors from flying.

After trading up in the back of the first round to grab Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart, the buzz around a potential Winston trade has grown exponentially.

With Russell Wilson expected to begin the season as the starting quarterback, Winston could find himself in a bit of a limbo state, especially if the coaching staff wants to get Dart more reps.

In predicting one final move for the Giants to make this offseason, Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton believes it’s time for New York to part ways with Winston.

“Head coach Brian Daboll has tabbed Russell Wilson as the starting quarterback. Big Blue traded back into the first round for Jaxson Dart. Winston is in no-man’s land between the team’s current and potential future starting quarterbacks. The Giants should try to trade him for an early Day 3 draft pick. Winston has some value as a backup. Last year, he threw for 2,121 yards, 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 12 games (seven starts) with the Cleveland Browns,” Moton wrote.

Winston will be a fantastic addition to the locker room given his charismatic personality, and he would even be an intriguing fit within Daboll’s offense. However, it’s unclear whether the Giants would give him the reins over Dart if the Wilson experiment fails.

Winton is under contract for the next two seasons on a backup deal so his financials aren’t really making an impact either way.

But if a quarterback-needy team comes calling before the season starts, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the Giants tried to listen.
