76ers could cut ties with Paul George, Jared McCain and No. 3 pick for $195 million star

The Philadelphia 76ers might want to get out of Paul George’s contract.

George is coming off a rough year, dealing with injuries after signing a four-year, $211.5 million contract with the 76ers last offseason.

Now, there’s no debate that he’s much better than he was last season, when he averaged just 16.2 points and shot 43.0% from the field.

That was by far the worst season of George’s career, and he understands that he needs to improve. However, for a Philadelphia organization that’s losing time, they might not be willing to wait for him.

That’s why, in a proposed trade idea from SB Nation, the 76ers would trade George in a deal involving the third overall pick and Jared McCain. The trade would send Philadelphia Lauri Markkanen and Collin Sexton.

“Do the 76ers buy into this deal? Maybe. For an All-Star-level forward and an under-the-radar valuable addition like Sexton, the Sixers get off of George’s disgusting contract and improve their championship shot overnight for the cost of the third pick. This gets messy when considering how much Philadelphia values McCain, but Sexton is an objective upgrade and still only 26 years old,” Calvin Barrett wrote.

Trading McCain should be an absolute non-starter for the 76ers. He’s too good.

Prior to McCain going down with an injury, he looked like one of the better rookies in the NBA. Frankly, he might’ve been the best.

Moving on from him would be a tough decision, as well as the third overall pick, despite how enticing it might be to add Markkanen.

It’s also tough to say that Markkanen would be much better than George.

While he’s younger and has played well for the Jazz, playing in Philadelphia would be a completely different situation for many reasons.
