The Mavericks’ lottery luck struck when they landed the first overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.
They’ll likely take Cooper Flagg, adding a young weapon to an already talented Dallas roster.
However, with Kyrie Irving out for most of the upcoming 25-26 NBA season, they’ll need to find his next replacement.

Mavericks’ offseason plan
According to insider Jake Fischer, the main priority is to first re-sign Kyrie Irving.
Irving has a player option of just under $44 million in the final year of his contract for this upcoming season.

Dallas may look to sign Kyrie to a long term deal, whether or not he comes back later next season or for the start of the 26-27 season.
If they can ink a deal with Irving, they will then go out and try to find a temporary guard in free agency or through trade to play a bigger role while he’s out, and slide back to backup minutes when he’s back healthy.
With the Mavs current roster, they may go with a bigger lineup, especially with the potential addition of Cooper Flagg, which could impact decisions made on what guard they go after.
