Last night, Ange Postecoglou led Tottenham to their first title win since the 2007-08 season. Spurs bagged a 1-0 win against Manchester United in the Europa League final on May 21, at San Mames, Bilbao.
Postecoglou took over as Tottenham’s head coach in 2023 and managed a fifth-place finish in the Premier League table without any silverware in his debut season.
Tottenham have had a terrible run this season, currently ranking 17th in the Premier League with one match remaining. This led to Postecoglou being on the receiving end of heavy criticism. Back in September, the 59-year-old manager assured (comments via BBC Sport) that he ‘always win things in my second year.’
“I always win things in my second year. Nothing has changed. I don’t say things unless I believe them,” said Postecoglou.
And now he has the Europa League trophy to back his claim. Speaking after the match, Postecoglou enthusiastically established himself as ‘a winner’ and said,
“I’m a winner. Win is what I do the most. Even when I signed, Daniel [Levy] said ‘we’ve gone after winners and it didn’t work, now we’ve got Ange’. Mate, I’m a winner.”

However, doubts over Postecoglou’s future at Tottenham still appear to continue and questions about the same were asked to him following the victory.
What did Ange Postecoglou say about his future at Tottenham?
During his post-match press conference, reporters asked Postecoglou to share his thoughts (comments via BBC Sport) on the reported uncertainties about his future at Tottenham.
“I’ve had such a laser focus on winning this, whatever happens, happens.
“I’m the manager of the football club, that decision is not in my hands. All I know is having this [medal] around my neck means we have won a trophy. I don’t feel I have completed the job,” he responded.
Postecoglou further spoke about how after the Europa League title win, he would like to continue building ‘a team that can be challenging for the next four or five years’ and would be ‘disappointed’ if he is dismissed before he can do that.
“We’re still building this team. It’s a young team, we need to add experience and now we are in the Champions League. I’ve been trying to build a team that can be challenging for the next four or five years. Since I came here I had the belief of trying to win something and we have done that and I want to build on it,” he said.
“I would be disappointed if we don’t continue on this path,” Postecoglou added.
Postecoglou & Co. will now return to Premier League action for one last time this season on May 25 against Brighton & Hove Albion at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
