Garrett Wilson makes definitive statement about future with Jets amid contract talks

The media was present for the latest session of New York Jets OTAS on Wednesday and wide receiver Garrett Wilson addressed his future with the team.

Wilson’s future with the team has been a hot topic of conversation this offseason. The former first-round pick’s contract runs through 2026, but he understandably wants to get an extension done well before that time comes.

Reports suggested Wilson was unhappy last season, and with the team not having had any success since he got there, speculation has run rampant that maybe he wants out.

However, Wilson cleared the air completely on Wednesday, with the Ohio State product making it quite clear he wants to stay in New York.

I’m hopeful I’m a Jet for life, and we get this thing rolling and that all of our best are ahead of us,” Wilson said, per SNY. “I don’t know exactly what that looks like. I’m going to go do my part to make sure it’s undeniable when the time does come and those conversations are being had. . . . I’ll say that.”

Wilson also added that he and the Jets have had a “few discussions,” which is certainly good news for his future with the team.

Wilson, who has never missed a game, has been sensational since joining the Jets in 2022. He has broken the 1,000-yard mark in all three campaigns and is fresh off a career-best showing with 1,104 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.

Making his numbers more impressive is the fact that the Jets have had an abysmal situation at quarterback for most of his career. Even Aaron Rodgers didn’t play up to snuff in 2024, yet Wilson kept producing at a high level.

With Davante Adams gone and not many weapons to write home about in the passing game this season, Wilson has become as important as ever to the Jets’ offense, and that’s especially true with a new quarterback in Justin Fields.

With what he’s done on the field, and with him set to turn 25 in July, the Jets would be crazy not to get something done in the near future with one of their best players.
