Chelsea keen to keep star midfielder despite interest from Spanish giants

Chelsea are set for a busy summer transfer window with a number of incomings and outgoings certain to take place at the club.

While the fans will be excited about the potential incomings, it is also important to keep an eye on the possible outgoings as Chelsea need to sell players in order to balance the books and fund their transfer business.

Enzo Fernandez has been one of the standout players for the Blues this season as he has put in some impressive performances and also captained the team on numerous occasions.

More importantly, the Argentine international has established himself as a vital cog in midfield for Enzo Maresca’s side.

However, according to a report by The Guardian, his impressive performances have reportedly attracted interest from Real Madrid, who are reportedly eyeing a move for the midfielder. The Spanish giants are in the midst of a squad overhaul after losing the La Liga title to FC Barcelona this season.

Though the Spanish club once had an enviable midfield of Toni Kroos, Casemiro and Luka Modric, things are no longer the same, and they are keen on revamping their midfield with Fernandez at the heart of it.

However, Chelsea are reportedly not worried about Madrid’s interest in their player, and they are confident that they can fend off any interest in him. Additionally, there is no indication that the 24-year-old is unhappy at Stamford Bridge.

Fernandez would need to make a huge fuss to force an exit. There are also doubts over whether Madrid have the funds required to tempt Chelsea into a sale. Madrid are also said to be interested in Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister. But prizing him away from Anfield will be hugely challenging as he has established himself as indispensable to the Liverpool squad.
