Rival boss admits there’s ‘no way’ to stop Lamine Yamal ahead of June clash

Barcelona star Lamine Yamal has continued his rise to super stardom in 2025.

The 17-year-old is now a vital player for club and country after racking up 18 goals and 16 assists for La Blaugrana as part of their treble-winning 2024/25 campaign.

Hansi Flick’s side has been built on young talent with Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsi and Alejandro Balde all playing their part in La Liga, Copa del Rey and Spanish Supercup wins.

With Barcelona not in action at this summer’s FIFA Club World Cup, Lamine Yamal will have a longer break to build up for the 2025/26 season, but his campaign is not finished yet.

Flick may rest him for Barcelona’s final game of the season away at Athletic Club on May 25 but he will join up with Spain at the start of June.

Luis de la Fuente’s team are looking to defend their UEFA Nations League crown – on the back of winning Euro 2024 last summer – and Lamine Yamal will be part of his plans.

Spain take on France in the 2025 Nations League semifinal on June 5 in Stuttgart with a potential final against either hosts Germany or Portugal on June 9.

A fresh clash with France revives a rivalry with Les Bleus and Didier Deschamps is concerned about the threat posed by the Catalan teenager.

What did Didier Deschamps say about facing Lamine Yamal?

Spain and France have faced off four times since Deschamps took charge in 2012 and their Euro 2024 semifinal clash featured a spectacular goal from Lamine Yamal.

His long-range strike put Spain on course for a final date with England as he became the youngest scorer in the competition’s history.

Deschamps spoke about threat posed by Spain’s No.19 after announcing his squad for the Nations League finals.

“Spain are the best team in Europe and perhaps the best in the world,” as per quotes from Relevo.

“Many of the Spanish players will arrive fresh because Barcelona will not play in the Champions League final.

“They have a very diverse profile of playing styles in their squad with players who can make an impact.

“I still haven’t seen a team that has truly found a solution to stop  Lamine Yamal [for Barcelona or Spain]. The idea is to limit the influence he has.”

Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe will captain France next month before heading off to the Club World Cup with Los Blancos.
