French icon slams ‘arrogant’ former PSG stars in bold Luis Enrique claim

French football legend Emmanuel Petit has delivered a scathing assessment of Paris Saint-Germain’s past, calling out the club’s former star-driven culture and contrasting it sharply with the unity and humility shown by Luis Enrique’s current squad.

In an interview with Marca, the 1998 World Cup winner said he had distanced himself from PSG in recent years due to the atmosphere created by their top players and overall club culture.

“For years, I didn’t like [PSG] because of what they did with their money,” Petit admitted.

“On the pitch, it was all showboating and bad behavior, but off the pitch, communication was poor.”

He didn’t hold back when describing the attitude he felt came to define the team during its superstar era.

“The arrogance of the players and also the fans was disgusting,”

Petit Praise Luis Enrique

Petit praised the transformation of PSG under manager Luis Enrique and  credited the Spaniard for bringing the team spirit to the club.

“Since Luis Enrique arrived, especially in recent months, everything has changed,” Petit said.

He believes a turning point came in January

“I think something clicked in their minds when they beat Manchester City at the end of January. They started 2025 in very good fashion, and their confidence changed.”

“Luis Enrique smiles in press conferences and jokes with reporters. A couple of months ago, he was very arrogant, but not anymore.”

“The most important thing is that PSG isn’t just Dembele, it’s a team.”

“In the Ligue 1 team of the season, nine players were from PSG, Luis Enrique was the manager of the season, Dembélé was the best player…”
