PSG finally receive financial bonus as Roma forced into Paredes decision

Paris Saint-Germain are set to receive a €2m [$2.25m] bonus after AS Roma were forced to start Leandro Paredes in their vital Serie A clash with AC Milan on May 18.

That decision marked his 80th appearance for the club which has triggered a contractual clause originally agreed during his 2023 transfer from Paris

Paredes signed from PSG as part of a €2.5m [$2.8m] deal, as reported by Fabrizio Romano, but he had been stuck on 79 matches since mid-April.

The Argentine midfielder was benched by the Italian side for five consecutive games, with sources indicating the move was financially motivated to avoid the pay out to PSG.

After a crushing 2-1 defeat to Atalanta on May 12, which endangered Roma’s UEFA Champions League qualification hopes, boss Claudio Ranieri was left with little choice but to opt for a recall.

With Rome giants locked in an intense top-four race with Juventus, De Rossi brought Paredes into the starting XI against AC Milan, despite the clause, and the gamble paid off — on the pitch at least.

The Argentinian proved decisive in a tense match at the Stadio Olimpico. With the score level at 1-1, he produced a moment of magic as his curling free kick flew past Mike Maignan in the 58th minute.

Roma secured a vital three points and remain within a point of Juventus for the final UCL spot, with one game to go.

In total, Paredes has played 32 games across all competitions this season for Roma, netting three goals and laying on three assists.

On the final day Roma head to Torino – as Juventus go to Venezia – and Ranieri needs an away win, plus a Juve slip, to secure a top four place.
