The Oklahoma City Thunder are running away with Game 7 against the Denver Nuggets in their Western Conference semifinals series on Sunday afternoon. During the action, Atlanta Hawks star guard Trae Young saw another opportunity to take a shot at the New York Knicks and their fans.
Over the years, Young has become one of the biggest villains in New York, thanks in large part for his penchant for delivering big performances at Madison Square Garden. The rivalry of sorts between Young and the Knicks really began during the 2021 Eastern Conference semifinals series, which saw Atlanta beat New York in five games, with Young frequently taunting the crowd as MSG throughout the proceedings.
Young has remained public enemy No. 1 in the eyes of Knicks fans, even though the Hawks have struggled to find any sort of consistent success since 2021. The feelings are mutual, as Young claimed that the crowd at Paycom Center supporting the Thunder in Game 7 are louder than Knicks fans were during their closeout victory over the Boston Celtics in Game 6 on Friday night.
“Hot take but not.. OKC fans are louder than Knick fans. Happy Sunday!” Young said in a post on X.
Hot take but not..
OKC fans are louder than Knick fans.
Happy Sunday!— Trae Young (@TheTraeYoung) May 18, 2025
Regardless of whether or not Young’s claim is true, the home crowd appears to be helping the Thunder in a big way, as they raced out to a 23-point lead over the Nuggets midway through the third quarter. Assuming they don’t completely collapse, Oklahoma City will advance to the Western Conference Finals for a meeting with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Knicks, meanwhile, likely won’t be too worried about Young’s opinion, as they are preparing for the Eastern Conference Finals, where they will take on the Indiana Pacers after they defeated the reigning champion Celtics in their second round series.
