Two weeks ago, Scottie Scheffler shot an absurd 31-under at the Byron Nelson Championship. He won by eight shots.
But that was just the Byron Nelson, right? The world No. 1 wouldn’t do anything like that at the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow, would he?
Wrong.
Scheffler almost doubled up the field in as dominant a win as you’ll find. Scheffler, at 11-under, stormed away from a host of runners-up at 6-under.
And after Scheffler’s first two major wins came at the Masters, he now has a PGA Championship title to his name.
It’s not the biggest win at a PGA Championship – Rory McIlroy once won by eight shots. But it was as comprehensive a win as could be.

Scheffler didn’t lead the tournament early, but rather lurked just a little off the lead. He close in rapid-fire fashion on Saturday, moving day, fittingly moving into first by three shots.
A brief hiccup Sunday brought him back to 9-under, tied with Jon Rahm for the tournament lead.
But then down the stretch, Rahm found water twice, while Scheffler found a few more birdies. No one else could get close. Scheffler was too good.
Scheffler’s rise has been quick. He was PGA Tour Rookie of the Year in 2020, but didn’t get his first tour win until 2022. That same season, he won the Masters and ascended to No. 1 in the world rankings.
Those ranks don’t always seem perfect, but right now, they’re exactly right. It’s Scheffler, a big gap, and then everyone else.
The PGA Championship scoreboard showed that perfectly. Scheffler is the best golfer on the planet, and he’s got a new shiny trophy to prove it.
