Manchester United’s poor run of form continued as they suffered a 1-0 Premier League defeat to Chelsea on May 16 at Stamford Bridge.
It was a closely fought encounter, as Marc Cucurella’s late strike helped Enzo Maresca’s men seal victory. However, it also comes as United’s 18th league defeat of this season, their highest tally in a single campaign since 1973-74, when they lost 20 games and were relegated.
The Red Devils have gone eight league games without a win, registering just two draws in that period.
It was another lacklustre outing for striker Rasmus Hojlund, as he struggled to hold the ball up, and hardly made any impact in the game.
But following their latest loss, boss Ruben Amorim gave a bold verdict to the media.
“I’m happy with Hojlund. Of course, all the team has to improve, but the way he runs, he fights for every ball, loses a lot of duels, wins some duels. But he’s improving. I’m really happy with him, he needs to continue working hard and better things will come,” Amorim told reporters.

Will Rasmus Hojlund stay at Man United next season?
Hojlund has struggled to score goals in 2024/25, and even his movements in the final third look desperately short on confidence. He has netted only 10 goals in 50 appearances overall at United with just four goals in the Premier League this season.
Due to his massive slump in form, United are looking to recruit a new striker this summer, with Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap back on Amorim’s radar.
Overall, Hojlund’s future at Old Trafford is uncertain as not many clubs have shown interest in the Danish international, looking at his current form.
Amorim has a big decision to make on the 22-year-old’s future and it will be interesting to see if the Portuguese coach hands him the start in the UEFA Europa League final.
It’s been a horrific season for United, but they can somewhat resurrect it by winning the Europa League, which will also seal Champions League qualification for next season.
Starting an out-of-form Hojlund in a game of such high stakes could be tricky as United face Tottenham in the final on Wednesday, May 21, at the Estadio San Mames in Bilbao.
As per the Italian outlet, Calciomercato, Juventus are eyeing a move for Hojlund, and the Italian outfit may have already began talks with United over a potential deal.
Hojlund joined the Red Devils in 2023 from Atalanta for £64m [$85m] fee plus £8m [$10.5m] in performance-related add-ons and his current contract runs until 2028.
