Lions’ $14 million young star fuels Packers with early bulletin board material

The Packers are looking to reclaim the top spot in the NFC North after the Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings dominated the division last season. Green Bay boasts an exciting young core that has the potential to grow into something special—perhaps even resembling the NFL version of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

This offseason hasn’t been without its challenges. Top receiver Jayden Reed briefly questioned his role after the team added two more wideouts. However, a quick meeting between his agent and the front office put those concerns to rest.

“Packers GM Brian Gutekunst met last week with Jayden Reed’s agent Drew Rosenhaus to clarify the wide receiver’s status in Green Bay after the team drafted Matthew Golden and Savion Williams. The team said it will not affect Reed’s status as its top receiver,” Adam Schefter wrote.

The Packers are set to host their division rival, the Detroit Lions, in the first game of the regular season—an intense matchup right out of the gate. Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold is already stirring the pot.

“We all know the season opener everybody wanted to see,” Arnold posted.

With Green Bay focused on Detroit all summer, Arnold’s post serves as early bulletin board material heading into Week 1.

“Sustained success is something new to the Lions. It also seems clear that some members of their current roster are letting it go to their heads. Any Packers fan will tell you that writing Green Bay off as some insignificant opponent is a decision that will come back to haunt you. For one reason or another, Arnold is unbothered by this, providing Jordan Love and company with all the bulletin board material they need ahead of their regular season opener,” Michael Bohlin wrote.

The motivation is certainly there. A Week 1 win over a rival would go a long way for this young Packers team—and you can bet they’ll have Arnold’s words in the back of their minds when the season kicks off.
