The New York Yankees lost Juan Soto to the New York Mets this offseason. He will visit Yankee Stadium for the first time this weekend since signing his 15-year, $765 million deal.
Soto’s crosstown move left a sour taste in the mouths of many Yankees fans. Surely his teammates felt some type of way as well after he helped lead them to a World Series. As a player, it may be easier to understand the business side of Soto’s move. According to the New York Post’s Jon Heyman, the Yankees’ top offer to Soto was $760 million over 16 years.
He got the better deal financially, but perhaps ruined his reputation in the eyes of Yankees fans. Jazz Chisholm Jr. spoke on whether the Yankees players have any beef with Soto during an appearance on “Joe and Jada.” He did not get specific, but when asked about what he thought of the move to the Mets, he replied diplomatically so as not to start any drama.
“I love being a Yankee. I would want to be a Yankee,” Chisholm said when asked what he thought of Soto joining the Mets.
Chisholm clearly disagrees with Soto’s decision, but that seems to be the extent of any beef. Soto made a decision that he felt was best for him, but perhaps Chisholm and other players feel like they would rather have stayed in the Yankees organization.
Chisholm went on to praise the Yankees and their facilities. He made it seem like he would not have chased the highest dollar amount if he were in Soto’s shoes. However, when Chisholm hits free agency, that will be put to the test. Soto desired to be a Yankee as well, according to what he told Heyman, but things did not work out that way.

“It was a tough decision. (The Yankees) were number one … but we couldn’t get it done,” Soto told Heyman. “But at the end of the day, things work for a good reason. I trust what we’ve done. And we’ll see what happens.”
Soto has also noted that he thinks Yankees fans are going to come at him from the stands this weekend. He also stated that it’s their right to do so. He is just focused on the game and trying to win. He had no regrets about his decision in the end.
“I made a decision, and I’m happy that I made it,” Soto said to Heyman. “You look around. We have an unbelievable team. And it’s going to be a good team for a long time.”
