Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed his upcoming departure from Real Madrid on May 26.
While initially contracted with the club until the summer of 2026, Ancelotti’s time at Santiago Bernabeu appears to have been cut short by Real Madrid’s underwhelming results this season.
This will mark to be the end of Ancelotti’s second stint with Real Madrid, which started in 2021. He was first appointed in 2013 and continued till 2015.
During a press conference ahead of Real Madrid’s La Liga match with Mallorca on May 14, Ancelotti announced his departure and referred (comments via The Athletic) to his tenure at Santiago Bernabeu as ‘a fantastic memory.’
“I’ve never had a problem with the club and I’m not going to have one, it’s a club that I’ll keep in my heart. I have a fantastic memory that will stay with me for life,” he said.
Ancelotti was also asked by reporters if he had any advice to offer to his successor at Real Madrid, Xabi Alonso.

What advice did Carlo Ancelotti give Xabi Alonso?
In his first stint as Real Madrid manager, Ancelotti coached Alonso, who played for Los Blancos from 2009 to 2014. Now, the Spaniard is set to succeed his former boss.
Ahead of his departure from Real Madrid, reporters asked Ancelotti if he had any guidance to pass on to Alonso. Rather than sharing advice, the Italian manager expressed ‘love’ for the 43-year-old and tipped him ‘to be a great coach in the future.’
“I have a lot of love for Xabi Alonso, I don’t have much advice to give him because he has all the tools to be a great coach in the future.”
Ancelotti will be taking over as Brazil national team head coach following his departure from Real Madrid. Alonso, meanwhile, is returning to Santiago Bernabeu in a new role after his success at Bayer Leverkusen.
While both managers are going to start a new journey, it remains to be seen what awaits them in the future.
