British boxer Tommy Fury (11-0, 4 KOs) won his comeback fight against Kenan Hanjalic (5-2, 4 KOs) last night, on Friday, May 9, in Hungary, live on DAZN.
The unbeaten Briton secured a unanimous points decision over his German-born Bosnian opponent in their six-round cruiserweight contest at the MTK Arena in Budapest.
“TNT” Tommy begun by backing up and flicking out his low left jab in the opening round, but was occasionally caught finding his way in. 27-year-old Hanjalic attempted to launch an attack, but Fury was quick to back up and fire back.
In the round two, Hanjalic threw a wild overhand right, which resulted in him stumbling over his feet to hit the floor. Fury was working well to the body, while Hanjalic kept winding up the big right hand, but was always too telegraphed, so Fury was able to avoid it with east. Like most fights involving Tommy Fury, it begun to get very scrappy by the midway point.
In round three, the Manchester man kept targeting the body, finding lots of success. Hanjalic came forward with yet another windmill right, which Fury rolled underneath and threw back a very low blow to make the Bosnian go down, wincing in pain. He was soon back up and ready to continue.
In the fourth round, Fury was beginning to load up on his shots. There were some big exchanges and better action on view in this round. Fury was skipping away on the backfoot, showing some good movement.
Round five, however, was very scrappy and full of clinches, perhaps because the pair were both beginning to drain in energy.
In the sixth and final stanza, Tommy was flinching and feinting, similarly to the style of his brother Tyson, then landed a good right hook combination to the body then head. He was successful with that same combo again, shortly after. “TNT” skipped away for the remainder of the round, forcing the referee to clap his hands together, encouraging the boxers to fight for the crowd.
It was the 26-year-old Brit’s first fight since beating KSI via unanimous decision in October 2023 after he spent time away due to hand surgery. Earlier that same year, in February, he defeated Jake Paul via split decision over eight rounds.
And he immediately turned his attention towards a rematch with the YouTuber-turned-boxer, known as “The Problem Child”.
Tommy Fury is the only boxer Jake Paul has lost against from his 12 bouts and the American fights next month against ex-WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
In his post-fight interview, Tommy Fury roared: “Jake Paul’s a b—h and he’s running scared.
“Hey Jake, the hand is fixed now baby, the hand is fixed.
“I fought a guy in here tonight who’s had more than 100 amateur fights, an experienced hitter and he’s as tough as teeth.
“If Jake Paul wants to step inside the ring, I guarantee next time, I will knock you spark out.
“I’ve had two years out the ring, this is after two years, I’ll knock that bum out whenever he wants it.”
