MLB Player Props: Picks and Best Bets for Thursday, May 8 Games

Yesterday stunk. There’s no way around it. We struck out with both of our player prop selections, although it’s worth mentioning we suffered some pretty terrible luck. Hunter Greene was averaging 2 strikeouts per inning when he suffered a groin injury after just 50 pitches. The Tigers, meanwhile, tagged Chase Dollander and the Rockies bullpen like we expected; they just didn’t get any production from our guy, Riley Greene.

But today is a new day. The player prop menu is a little bare with only 9 games on deck, but we’ve still found two wagers we can’t wait to bet.

MLB Player Prop Picks for May 8

Mookie Betts Over 1.5 Hits, Runs and RBI (-140 at Bet365)

First up, we’re targeting over 1.5 hits, runs, and RBI for the Dodgers Mookie Betts. The entire LA lineup is on fire recently and is fresh off an 11-run performance versus Miami. As for Betts, he’s starting to heat up after a slow start.

Over the last week, the 32-year-old is slashing .333/.429/.583. He has the luxury of hitting between Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman, two of the hottest hitters in baseball, and has a great track record versus D-Backs starter Brandon Pfaadt. Betts is batting .364 lifetime against Pfaadt, with an extra-base hit and an RBI.

Pfaadt was just roughed up by the Philly bats last Saturday, and has allowed 10 runs and 18 hits over his last 10.2 innings of work. He’s surrendering a hard hit rate of 45.5% so far this season, and boasts a career 6.20 ERA versus the Dodgers over four starts.

Betts has cleared this prop line in seven of the last eight games he’s started, and is an excellent bet to do so again tonight.

Shohei Ohtani Over 1.5 Total Bases (-135 at DraftKings)

Sticking with LA, how can you not run to the window to bet over 1.5 total bases for Ohtani tonight? The reigning NL MVP is slashing .364/.500/.955 over the last seven days, with home runs in three of his last five games.

Ohtani has cleared 1.5 total bases in five straight, and six of seven games overall, and is a career .333 hitter against Pfaadt.

Best of all, the price we’re getting on this line at DraftKings. We can bet over 1.5 bases for Ohtani at -135 odds there. That’s a bargain given the odds at other books, where he’s -150 in the same market at Bet365 and -180 at FanDuel. As always, price shop for the best lines, and make the books pay for lagging behind.
