While the Stanley Cup playoffs roars towards its crescendo, there’s another hockey tournament gathering steam across the pond.
The 2025 IIHF World Championship returns to the fore on May 9. It figures to be an enticing two-week affair, with a handful of notable countries set to compete for the gold.
Sweden and Denmark will co-host the competition, while superpowers Czechia, Finland, Switzerland and the United States will headline the 16-team field. Then, there’s Canada, the winningest program in tournament history. With 28 titles to their name, the Canadians have made the spectacle their own since its 1930 inception.
Andre Tourigny’s side enters the 2025 iteration of the tourney with revenge on its mind. After taking home the crown in two of its previous three tournaments, Canada settled for a fourth-place showing in 2024.
