Draymond Green fan altercation: Warriors star gets into verbal exchange with heckler over alleged racial slur

During Thursday’s Warriors vs. Timberwolves matchup, video emerged on social media of Draymond Green having an exchange with a fan.

With the second game of the second-round series being on the road, Golden State was in Target Center in what resulted in a 117-93 Timberwolves win.

Green, who spoke postgame about the “ridiculous agenda” out there to make him “look like an angry Black man,” was recorded having an interaction with a fan in the crowd while he was warming up on a bike. According to the person who posted the video, the fan Green was yelling back at used a racial slur toward him.

It’s unclear at what point in the game Green had the interaction with the fan, but video showed him warming up on a bike while Thursday’s Game 2 was in action.

The person who posted the video suggested a fan called Green a racial slur, and in the video, she can be heard saying “It was him” to tell Green who said it. It’s hard to make out what Green responded, but he does clearly call the fan “soft” while they respond, “Why you mad?”

Green hasn’t yet addressed the incident. However, he did speak to reporters after Friday’s game about the “agenda” to make him seem like “an angry black man,” and the exchange with the fan could have played into it.

“I’m not an angry black man. I’m a very successful, educated Black man with a great family. I’m great at basketball. I’m great at what I do,” Green said. “The agenda to continue to keep making me look like an angry black man is crazy. I’m sick of it. It’s ridiculous.”

On Friday, the Timberwolves released a statement on the interaction involving Green. The team said that a fan was ejected by Target Center security Thursday for “violating the NBA Fan Code of Conduct in an incident involving Draymond Green,” and that a second fan was “identified by surrounding patrons as making racially charged comments towards Green.”

The Timberwolves also said that the second fan left the arena on his own before security could verify his identity. The team is continuing to investigate the situation.

Green drew some criticism as he was called for a technical foul on Naz Reid in Thursday’s game. He’s approaching an automatic suspension if he keeps receiving technicals.

The Warriors star finished with nine points in Game 2 as the series now heads to Golden State tied at one game apiece.
