In April, Kevin De Bruyne announced his departure from Manchester City at the end of the season, marking an end to a decade-long journey.
De Bruyne’s contract at the Etihad was set to expire this summer. Later, following his announcement of departure, it was revealed that the club authorities, along with head coach Pep Guardiola, decided not to offer the Belgian an extension.
Now, the midfield maestro is officially set to leave as a free agent, several reports surfaced linking De Bruyne to several clubs, including massive offers from Saudi. The 33-year-old has expressed (comments via ESPN) that he is ‘open to anything’ that suits him and his family.
“I’m open for anything, anything, just for because I have to look at the whole picture. I’m looking at sporting, family, everything together, what makes the most sense for me and my family.”
Now, Sky Sports News have reported that Napoli are interested in signing De Bruyne on a free transfer at the end of the season. While the Serie A side are well aware of the line of suitors for the Genk graduate, they are reportedly hoping that his friendship with one of their players helps them seal the deal.

Napoli are hoping that De Bruyne’s friendship with his national teammate Romelu Lukaku, who joined the Italian club last year, will be a convincing point for the Man City veteran.
Napoli are currently are trying to claim the Serie A title, standing first in the league table with three matches remaining. De Bruyne, meanwhile, with Man City, is making efforts to ensure a Champions League qualification for next season and lifting the FA Cup in his last run at the Etihad.
It remains to be seen if Napoli are able to bring De Bruyne to Serie A with Lukaku acting as the catalyst.
