Mets’ Brandon Nimmo reveals injury news after latest scare

The New York Mets are starting to catch the injury bug a bit more than other teams around Major League Baseball.

With multiple starters already on the injured list, and Jesse Winker now sidelined for the next six to eight weeks with an oblique strain, the Mets have to be careful.

Unfortunately, they might have a new injury to deal with, as left fielder Brandon Nimmo was limping in discomfort after hurting his left knee in the fourth inning against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday night.

Nimmo stayed in for the remainder of the game, but there’s a possibility that he might be feeling it a day later.

However, speaking to reporters after the game, the veteran outfielder noted that he feels fine “for the most part” and believes he “dodged a bullet.”

“It’s good, for the most part,” Nimmo said, per amNY. “I think we dodged a bullet; that’s great.”

The Mets, perhaps more than any team in baseball, know that if they want to win at the highest level, they need guys like Nimmo on the roster to be healthy.

“[Team doctors] just said, watching the replay and looking at the knee, we dodged a bullet,” Nimmo added. “It could have been much worse. We’re going to take it as a good thing. Dodged something that could have been a lot worse.”

He’s struggled to start the year, hitting just .211, but his power numbers are there, hitting seven home runs and five doubles.

While his 93 OPS+ is below league average, and would be the lowest of his career in any season he’s played in more than 32 games, Nimmo should turn things around in the near future.
