The biggest surprise of the 2025 NFL Draft was Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders falling out of the first round. Then the second, third and fourth rounds as well.
Sanders finally got selected on Day 3, going in the fifth round at No. 144 overall to the Cleveland Browns. Who saw that coming? Frankly, nobody.
Yet, it was a reality, and Sanders went from being a first-round choice to being chosen on Day 3 of the draft in one of the most shocking slides in draft history.
While it might not have been a pleasant experience for Sanders and his family, it turns out it wasn’t pleasant for one fan, either.
A report came out that one fan has filed a $100 million lawsuit against the NFL, citing “emotional distress” due to Sanders’ slide.
The lawsuit was obtained by Ben Remaly.
A fan has filed an antitrust lawsuit accusing the NFL and its teams of conspiring not to draft Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders until the 5th round of the draft.

The entire lawsuit can be found here. It was filed on May 1 in the Northern District of Georgia Atlanta Division.
It is written by John Doe as the plaintiff, and he details he is a Colorado fan who “followed Shedeur Sanders throughout the 2023 and 2024 seasons.”
Doe also attended Colorado’s game against TCU, which marked the first one of the Deion Sanders era.
The lawsuit continued to state the following:
“Reports and leaked statements suggested that Sanders ‘’tanked interviews,’ ‘wasn’t prepared,’ and ‘was too cocky,’ which contributed to a narrative that has unjustly harmed his reputation and potential as a player. These slanderous statements reflect biases that influenced the NFL’s decision-making process, causing emotional distress and trauma to the Plaintiff as a fan and consumer.”
It’s quite an attempt from the fan, and asking for $100 million for an instance such as this is something.
