Cowboys’ Micah Parsons gets $161 million contract update

The news out of Dallas continues to be positive as far as Micah Parson’s new contract is concerned.

The extension appears to be coming, and when it does, it will certainly eclipse the $160 million deal signed by Cleveland’s Myles Garrett earlier this offseason.

Yahoo’s Frank Schwab reported more on the matter Monday, breaking down the expectation:

“The Cowboys seem to enjoy waiting to pay their stars, even if it costs them more in the end,” Schwab writes. “That seems to be what’s happening with Parsons, one of the NFL’s elite defensive players who will get paid as such. Parsons is attending Cowboys workouts, which seems like a good-faith move by the player during negotiations. The question doesn’t really seem to be if or even how much Parsons will get paid, it’s when he’ll get it.”

The key line for Cowboys fans may be the last one: “The question doesn’t really seem to be if or even how much Parsons will get paid, it’s when he’ll get it.”

Parsons has had 12 or more sacks in each of his four NFL seasons since being a first-round pick out of Penn State.

He’s the face of the Cowboys’ franchise alongside Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb.

He’ll be the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history.

The early offseason drama about Jerry Jones not even knowing the name of Parsons’ agent appears to have gone by the wayside.

All that matters for Dallas now is keeping Parsons in town. He’ll surely take the big money they’re offering.

The Cowboys and Parsons are a partnership that will persist for years to come.
