Thunder alum Carmelo Anthony makes major announcement that secures future in NBA world

It’s been three years since Oklahoma City Thunder alum Carmelo Anthony played in the NBA. After playing with the Los Angeles Lakers for the 2021-22 season, Anthony has since retired. All that remains is what his next move is going forward.

Anthony announced his next move: joining the NBA on NBC broadcast team when the NBA moves to that channel next season. The recent Hall of Fame inductee announced it on his X account.

Anthony posted a video of his playing days back when he played for the Denver Nuggets, New York Knicks, and Team USA, then shared a retro montage of NBA on NBC highlights from the 90s, before sharing a clip of him talking about his life post-NBA. Anthony posted the video with the caption, “A new chapter begins @NBAonNBC this fall (shaking hands emoji) #STAYME7O.”

The Thunder alum will join other former NBA players, including Jamal Crawford and Reggie Miller, who have signed on to NBC as analysts. More former players could join them in the coming months. Anthony entered the NBA in 2003, only one year after NBC lost the broadcasting rights to the NBA.

Anthony played for the Thunder for one season, the 2017-18 season, during which time he averaged 16.2 points and 5.8 rebounds while shooting 40.4% and 35.7% from three, a sharp decline from his previous numbers with the Knicks. Because Anthony didn’t fit in well with the team, the Thunder traded him the following offseason for Dennis Schroder.

Anthony was among the best scorers in the NBA during his playing days because of how crafty he could be. His expertise could be very valuable to the NBA on NBC broadcast.
