Yankees’ Aaron Judge’s stats are nearly unmatched historically entering May

Aaron Judge ended April with a bang.

The Yankees superstar crushed his 10th home run of the season on Wednesday night in Baltimore. And with that swing, he entered into even rarer air than he’s already been residing in.

To break down the history, we start with Judge’s stats through the end of April after his 3-for-3 night on Wednesday.

Here are Judge’s stats through April 30:

  • .427 batting average
  • 10 home runs
  • 32 RBI
  • 1.282 OPS

Judge is the fifth player in MLB history to carry 10 homers and a .425 average into May.

The others: 1970 Tony Perez, 1997 Larry Walker, 2004 Barry Bonds, 2019 Cody Bellinger.

Fittingly, Bellinger hits right behind Judge in the Yankees order in many games this season.

Judge hit .322 last season, but it’s the batting average that is really otherworldly for him right now.

A player with seasons of 62 and 58 home runs was always expected to continue his slugging.

But when coupled with the batting average, Judge just had one of the best hitting months in baseball history.

Given the dead-center crushed HR on Wednesday night, he doesn’t look like he’ll cool down right away going into May, either.

It’s a long season, and the watch for a player hitting .400 could be on for a while or it could dissipate quickly.

But either way, Judge continues to do historic things, and it’s never something to take for granted.
