Aaron Rodgers is the top quarterback left on the market, as the 41-year-old has yet to make a decision regarding his football future after a tumultuous 2024 campaign with the New York Jets.
Rodgers is past his prime, but the future Hall of Famer can still be an adequate starting quarterback with the right pieces around him. Though retirement is a possibility, The 33rd Team’s Ian Valentino predicts Rodgers will finally sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers after months of speculation.
The Pittsburgh Steelers were heavily linked to quarterbacks throughout the 2025 NFL Draft, but the three days came and went with only one addition in the sixth round: Will Howard. Howard may very well beat out Mason Rudolph for the starting job, but Aaron Rodgers is a better option.
Rodgers is no longer a high-end starter in consistent playmaking, but he was better than Russell Wilson and Justin Fields were in 2024. Considering Pittsburgh’s investments in DK Metcalf and a rebuilt offensive line, the team should be confident they can get even more out of Rodgers in 2025.
The Steelers passed on Shedeur Sanders multiple times during the 2025 NFL Draft, opting to select Ohio State’s Will Howard in Round 6 instead. Though Howard does have some promise and had a terrific 2024 season with the Buckeyes, the 23-year-old isn’t ready to be a starting signal-caller yet.
Rodgers has been linked to Pittsburgh since the first day of the legal tampering period in free agency. The four-time league MVP has also visited the franchise’s facility and had conversations with head coach Mike Tomlin, general manager Omar Khan, and offensive coordinator Arthur Smith.
Though they have some uncertainty on the offensive line, the Steelers offense would be a fantastic fit for Rodgers. The unit has a dynamic receiver duo in DK Metcalf and George Pickens, a reliable tight end in Pat Freiermuth, and also added promising running back Kaleb Johnson in the draft.
Rodgers is out of options, as Pittsburgh seems like the lone landing spot for the veteran at this point. Tomlin’s squad has the talent to make a run in the AFC, but they won’t be able to do it without competent quarterback play. If Rodgers wants to compete for another championship in the final years of his illustrious career, signing with the Steelers is the only logical move.
