Dodgers urged to trade for $7.5 million Cardinals star after Tyler Glasnow injury

The Los Angeles Dodgers entered the season with the most stacked rotation in Major League Baseball, but things don’t always work out as planned.

Blake Snell went down early with a shoulder injury, and it looks like Tyler Glasnow will soon be joining him on the 15-day injured list. Clayton Kershaw, Tony Gonsolin, and Shohei Ohtani are still on the mend, while Yoshinobu Yamamoto is the lone fully healthy, proven star.

Snell and Glasnow were both expected to help steer the Dodgers through the regular season in addition to taking the ball in October. The goal now should be to make sure both are healthy in time for the playoffs, and more depth could be required to weather 162 games.

Would the Dodgers make a trade for another starting pitcher? One baseball writer believes that should happen sooner rather than later.

On Tuesday, Newsweek’s Zach Pressnell urged the Dodgers to make an immediate trade for St. Louis Cardinals veteran righty Erick Fedde to reduce some of the strain on their pitching staff.

“The lack of healthy big league pitchers is a real issue for the Dodgers. The only solution with the current state of the Dodgers is a blockbuster trade for a reliable pitcher to bolster their rotation,” Pressnell wrote.

“Fedde isn’t the flashiest name on the market, nor is he the best. But he eats innings, and he does it with solid production. The righty is signed for the rest of the season on a contract that will pay him less than $10 million, and it likely wouldn’t cost much prospect capital to acquire him.”

Fedde, 32, has a 4.68 ERA thus far through six starts in 2025. But he proved in 2024 that he can stay healthy and give a team quality innings throughout a full season (3.30 ERA in 31 starts), and he’s very cheap at $7.5 million in the final year of his current deal.

Would Fedde be an effective solution for the Dodgers? The front office might have to pay a premium to find out now, compared to waiting until the Jul. 31 deadline.
