New names emerged in the NFL following this past weekend’s 2025 NFL Draft. Day three brought plenty of surprises—most notably the unexpected fall of top quarterback prospect Shedeur Sanders, who slipped all the way to the fifth round. Sanders had been projected as one of the first quarterbacks off the board, but things didn’t unfold that way.
One team to watch throughout the draft was the Pittsburgh Steelers. Entering the weekend with only two quarterbacks on their active roster, the team made it clear that number wasn’t ideal heading into the summer. Steelers GM Omar Khan hinted at their intentions beforehand.
“We go to camp with four quarterbacks. Right now, we have two on the roster. All options are on the table for how we acquire those last two,” Adam Schefter posted.
While Pittsburgh did end up drafting a quarterback, it didn’t happen until very late. The Steelers passed on Sanders, Jalen Milroe, and others before selecting Will Howard. Known for his fiery personality, Howard showed his passion during a game against Tennessee.
“The funny thing is, they came out with their shirts off and ran over to the opposite end zone. What the f**k are these clowns doing? At that moment, I knew we had them,” Howard told Jon Gruden.
Howard’s draft night only got more memorable. As the Steelers went on the clock, a video captured him pleading to be picked by Pittsburgh—right before his phone rang.

“Please pick me Pittsburgh,” Howard said on the camera.
The Steelers did just that, and Howard was thrilled to learn he’d be heading to Pittsburgh.
“All Eagles fans, but now they’re going to be some d**n Steelers fans,” Howard told Mike Tomlin.
Howard was ecstatic to be selected by the Steelers, and it’s clear that Pittsburgh was where he wanted to be all along.
