Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders labeled ‘camp body’, may never get opportunity to start for Browns

The NFL Draft was both unforgettable and forgettable for Shedeur Sanders and his family. It was unforgettable for the former Colorado QB because he got to hear his name called and live out his dream. However, it was also forgettable due to Sanders sliding all the way to the fifth round and being prank-called early on night two of the draft, with a fake claim that he was going to be picked by the New Orleans Saints.

The person behind the prank call was Jax Ulbrich, the son of Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich. Stephen A. Smith made his feelings clear on air.

“I sincerely hope he whipped his kid’s a**. That’s an a** whipping. That is a required a** whipping,” Smith said.

As Sanders continued to slide down the draft board, the frustration grew. Eventually, Shilo Sanders announced that they had parted ways with their father, Deion Sanders, as their agent, after feeling let down by his handling of Shedeur’s situation.

“Dad was our agent,” Sanders said. “But that hasn’t been working out too good. So today I had to sign with an agent.”

The financial impact of Sanders’ slide is significant—about $41 million. Had he been picked third, his contract would have been worth $45 million, but now it’s only worth $4 million.

Emmanuel Acho weighed in on the situation, expressing concern about Shedeur’s prospects.

“The reality for Shedeur Sanders is this: As a 5th round pick, it rarely matters how talented you are, you may never even get the opportunity to win the starting job,” Acho said. “Sometimes as a 5th, 6th, 7th round pick, they are already cutting you. You are a camp body, you are there for training camp.”

Sanders is clearly concerned, especially since there will be five quarterbacks on the Browns’ training camp roster. With that many QBs, it seems he could already be on the chopping block.
