Barcelona president Laporta gives update on new Hansi Flick contract

FC Barcelona fans are still celebrating after their thrilling 3-2 win over Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey final. But behind the scenes, the work never stops.

Club president Joan Laporta has now shared some important updates — and dropped a few hints — about the future of head coach Hansi Flick.

Laporta, still buzzing from the big win, explained that Flick’s contract is sorted until 2026.

However, there’s a twist. Flick prefers to take things one season at a time. It’s like a striker who scores a hat-trick but still asks for a few extra training sessions — cautious, but always ready for more.

Speaking to RAC1 (via  Mundo Deportivo), Laporta said, “Flick knows that we want this project to last as long as possible. He fits the club perfectly, both for his human qualities and his sporting ideas. But he likes to have a year’s margin. Right now, we have Flick for this season and the next. The sports commission is working on securing the immediate future.”

Laporta reveals how they decided to hire Hansi Flick as new Barcelona coach

Laporta also compared Flick’s situation to the process they used with young star Lamine Yamal. He explained how the sporting team and the board work together to make these calls.

“The decision comes from the sports commission from a technical point of view. Then, there is a financial side which is approved by the board and myself as president,” he said.

It turns out that sporting director Deco and former Barca player Bojan Krkic were the ones who did most of the homework on Flick.

“Deco and Bojan led the analysis. I liked Flick from the start, but they studied him deeply from both a sporting and human perspective. There were other options too,” Laporta added.

While speaking about the final, Laporta also revealed Real Madrid president Florentino Perez had congratulated him.

“We have a respectful relationship. The controversy before the final? We saw it as just another strategy. We stayed focused on football and on putting on a great show full of passion and rivalry.”

And yes, Laporta even admitted he couldn’t help but jump out of his seat after Jules Kounde’s goal. No yellow cards for excessive celebration this time!
