Will Shedeur Sanders start for the Browns? Where Colorado star ranks on Cleveland’s depth chart

The Cleveland Browns ended the NFL Draft free-fall of Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders by selecting him at No. 144 overall in the fifth round. Yes, the one-time surefire first-round draft choice went in the fifth round to the Browns, who had selected Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel earlier in the draft.

It was a puzzling scenario to watch unfold, and now Sanders goes to Cleveland with a loaded QB room. The Browns have Deshaun Watson, although he is dealing with another injury issue that could prevent him from playing in 2025.

The Browns acquired Kenny Pickett in the offseason and signed veteran Joe Flacco, and then they drafted Gabriel and Sanders in a head-scratching turn of events.

So, the question is this: Will Shedeur Sanders be the starter for the Browns in 2025?

Browns QB Room Has Plenty of Questions

As of now, there are way too many questions in the Browns quarterback room. Daniel Chavkin of Sporting News did a deep-dive into the Cleveland QB room. He ranked the current depth chart as follows:

Rank Player
1. Joe Flacco
2. Kenny Pickett
3. Dillon Gabriel
4. Shedeur Sanders
5. Deshaun Watson (injured)

With Watson recovering from another Achilles injury, he is at the bottom until that situation becomes clear. Meanwhile, Chavkin says it could be an open competition for the Browns.

Entering training camp, Flacco, Pickett, Sanders, and Dillon Gabriel will all likely compete for the starting job, allowing the best man to win. Simply, if Sanders outperforms the other three, he should be the Browns’ starting quarterback in 2025.

So, things could be really interesting when camp rolls around in Cleveland. Furthermore, Pickett is the current favorite to be the Browns’ starter in Week 1, per the odds from DraftKings.

  1. Kenny Pickett: +120
  2. Shedeur Sanders: +225
  3. Joe Flacco: +300
  4. Dillon Gabriel: +650
  5. Deshaun Watson: +1800

So, there are plenty of question marks in Cleveland, and this will be a big one to monitor over the next few months.
