Everyone dreams of making their MLB debut — but many worry what may come with it.
The good, the bad and the ugly all encompass the MLB — just ask Athletics’ first baseman Nick Kurtz who had one of the funniest blunders you’ll ever see.
Kurtz was aggressive, chasing after an infield flyout. He was tracking the ball well but then….
Kurtz hit .321 with seven homers and 24 RBI in 20 games this season for Triple-A Las Vegas —now he’ll get to come to Sacramento, with the Athletics.
The big first baseman had an RBI single in the early innings of his MLB debut, which should help fans forget about the all-time debut blunder.

“Nick getting his feet on the ground today here. I think it’s exciting to have a prospect of his caliber here,” A’s manager Mark Kotsay said.

“I was taking classes less than 12 months ago,” Kurtz said about his days at Wake Forest. “It won’t feel super real until I step on that field. Again, for the national anthem or for my first at-bat, where it’s like, OK, I’m here now. It’s time to go.”
With the team relocating to Las Vegas in the coming years, the Athletics hope that Kurtz can be a pivotal part of the team’s resurgence to the top of the MLB.
Kurtz and other young stars are expected to usher in a new era for the Athletics, with hopefully more positive and iconic moments along the way.
