Parody account issues warning for MLB announcers over A’s star rookie Nick Kurtz

Editor’s note: This story has been updated from the original.

Nick Kurtz is the most exciting thing to happen to Athletics baseball in a long time.

They’re in Sacramento now, not Oakland, but the stands should be buzzing when this No. 4 pick from 2024 takes the field for his MLB debut either Tuesday or Wednesday.

His promotion has already prompted some tricky work from one of X’s baseball reporting parody accounts.

This esteemed publication fell victim to one of those reports. An account parodying the respected Talkin’ Baseball account shared that NBC Sports California had advised its announcers to pause when they say Kurtz’s name.

That is, don’t say “Nick” and “Kurtz” in too rapid-fire a manner.

It wasn’t a legitimate Sacramento Bee report, as was initially stated here. Instead, it was just playing on Kurtz’s trending nature to poke some fun.

Kurtz will give the announcers plenty of reason to talk about him.

The Athletics drafted him at No. 4 last year after he crushed the ball at Wake Forest. And in 32 professional games, Kurtz has batted .336 with 11 home runs. He’s ready.

The only other problem for the Athletics is their roster construction.

Kurtz is a first baseman, just like MLB home run leader Tyler Soderstrom. And the A’s already have Brent Rooker at DH after he hit 39 homers last year.

But for once, these are good problems to have for the Athletics. Their future home might be down a bumpy road, but with Kurtz in town, things are looking up on whatever field they get to play on.
