Mikel Arteta hints at new contract for Arsenal hero

It has been a good week for Arsenal fans, with big wins in both the Premier League and Champions League.

The Gunners defeated Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-final with an impressive 5-1 on aggregate scoreline, followed by a 4-1 win against Ipswich Town in the Premier League last week.

Now, Arsenal are set to face PSG in the Champions League semi-final next week. The French side has been going strong this season, claiming yet another Ligue 1 title on top of their successes in Europe.

Prior to the Champions League clash, the Gunners will be playing against Crystal Palace in the Premier League. Arsenal’s chances of claiming the league title this season are extremely unlikely as table toppers Liverpool need only three points in the remaining five games to lift the trophy.

However, speaking in the pre-match press conference against Palace, Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta asserted that his squad remains focused on the games under their control.

“Our incentive is to win our game and do our best to continue with the round that we are in right now. The rest we cannot control.”

Arteta also provided updates on Bukayo Saka with a subtle hint regarding his future that could add to the fans’ happiness.

What did Mikel Arteta say about Bukayo Saka’s future at the Emirates?

Since starting his senior career with Arsenal in 2018, Saka has been a constant in the Gunners’ squad as well as a fan favorite. With the academy graduate’s current contract expiring in 2027, fans have been eagerly waiting for a new deal.

Saka has also often stated his intentions to continue his career at the Emirates, and when speaking about Saka’s current situation, Arteta praised the Englishman for his form despite injury setbacks.

“That’s what you are hoping for. And the way he’s prepared, he was giving good signs that he could impact the game like he normally does. But obviously, to be playing at that level after missing three and a half months is not easy at all. So, credit to him and all the staff that were with him.”

When asked about Saka’s potential new contract by reporters, the Spanish manager replied:

“Yeah, when the time comes we will have those conversations and I’m sure the club is very on top of it. I think Bukayo has been very clear what his intentions are as well. So, I think everything is in the right place.”

Despite his absence due to injuries this season, Saka has netted 11 goals and provided 14 assists in 30 appearances for Arsenal this season.
