Braves called ‘perfect landing spot’ for $200M All-Star in blockbuster trade

The Atlanta Braves are in desperate need of an upgrade at shortstop. They could swing a blockbuster trade for a superstar on a struggling team. The Minnesota Twins are 8-15 and could become sellers near the deadline.

The Braves are not off to a great start themselves. However, they have the talent to turn things around and should be getting Ronald Acuña Jr. back soon. However, with their slow start, they may need to have a phenomenal run after his return, and cannot afford to have a hole at shortstop. Newsweek’s Zach Pressnell tabbed Atlanta as a “perfect” landing spot for Carlos Correa.

“Potentially the best landing spot for Correa would be the Atlanta Braves,” wrote Pressnell. “The Braves are in desperate need of a big move to boost their roster. They’ve struggled out of the gate this season, and it doesn’t look like things are going to get better unless they actively try to make it better. Shortstop Orlando Arcia has been a problem for the Braves again this season. Arcia slashed .218/.271/.354 with a 72 OPS+ last season, and he’s slashing even worse this year. Atlanta has needed to move on from him for quite a while now, but it hasn’t been able to commit to the move. With top prospect Nacho Alvarez Jr. seemingly not ready to take over as the everyday shortstop, the Braves need to swing a blockbuster trade for Correa.”

Correa signed a six-year, $200 million deal in 2023. He has vesting options for 2029-2032 and could be a long-term solution for the Braves at shortstop. He is off to a slow start this season, but he was an All-Star last season and a three-time All-Star overall.

The Braves have too much talent to punt on the season. Perhaps playing alongside the likes of Austin Riley, Acuña and Matt Olson could get Correa back to playing at an All-Star level.

“Correa has struggled this year, but he posted an OPS of .905 a year ago,” wrote Pressnell. “He could benefit tremendously from a change of scenery. There’s a chance the Braves could get the Twins to pay down some of Correa’s contract in a potential deal, too.”
