Blue Jays predicted to make shocking Bo Bichette decision ahead of deadline

After signing Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to a long-term extension, the wise thing for the Toronto Blue Jays to do would be to keep Bo Bichette in town. Bichette, an elite bat-to-ball hitter, and a promising, still relatively young shortstop, could be the next in line to get an extension.

However, some have suggested that the Blue Jays will let him walk, having him hit the free agency market with multiple teams expected to be interested.

It likely depends on how the Blue Jays play over the next few months to determine whether they want to move him or not.

However, losing the two-time All-Star for nothing would be a tough decision, and even if the Blue Jays are somewhat in contention, they could look to move on from Bichette for that reason alone.

In a recent prediction from David Schoenfeld of ESPN, he had the Blue Jays potentially moving on from the Florida native, citing that he’s an upcoming free agent, and that could change things.

“In the Blue Jays’ case, things would really have to go sour for them to surrender at the trade deadline, but they do have two interesting would-be free agents in Bassitt (off to a tremendous start with a 0.77 ERA through four outings) and Bichette (hitting for average but not any power).

“Even if the Blue Jays are a few games back at the deadline, they’ll probably look to make additions — especially keeping in mind that the jobs of executives Mark Shapiro and Ross Atkins, let alone manager John Schneider, are possibly on the line,” he wrote.

If the Blue Jays were to trade Bichette, they shouldn’t expect a massive return because of him hitting free agency next winter.

However, teams should be lined up to trade for a hitter of his caliber, currently hitting .313 with eight doubles and a 120 OPS+.
