Bayern Munich are looking to revamp their roster with a few additions. However, recent reports suggest one of their main targets is looking elsewhere this summer.
The Bavarians are strongly linked with attackers and wingers as Kompany aims to freshen up the attack and bring in players who can match his playing style. Therefore, one of the first names on their list was Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz.
Bayern have had a knack of signing the best German talents through the years, and they have been tracking Wirtz for some time due to his impressive form for rivals Leverkusen.
However, a recent report from Kicker suggests that the 21-year-old has indicated that the Bavarians are not on his priority list. It appears Wirtz wants to play for Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the Premier League or he may move to Real Madrid where his current manager, Xabi Alonso may also end up.
Given his talent, several of Europe’s biggest clubs are likely after Wirtz’s signature, and it will be a bidding war for the German international. He is extremely highly rated by the Bayern chiefs and Kompany, and now it is the 21-year-old’s decision to make.
As per the report, Wirtz’s entourage are closely monitoring Alonso’s movement, as the Spaniard is touted as the next in line to replace Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid. Given Alonso’s role in Wirtz’s development in the last few years, the German may well be keen on a move to the Spanish capital.

Should Wirtz join Man City, he will get a chance to feature in the Premier League and play under a coach who is known to transform careers. Wirtz could be a long-term replacement for Kevin De Bruyne, who is leaving the club after this season.
Bayern Munich have left no stone unturned to land Wirtz
Bayern have been tracking the German international since his youth days at Leverkusen. They have seen him grow in stature and develop into one of the best young talents in Europe.
Therefore, they are interested in signing him this summer as other clubs are also preparing big offers for the 21-year-old.
Last month, Bayern legend and former chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge called Wirtz the best player in Germany and also publicly admitted Bayern’s interest in the attacking midfielder. He was in close contact with the player’s team to lure him to Bavaria.
Rummenigge is an influential figure in German football, and the Bavarians believed that his words would hold a lot of weight and convince the youngster choose Bayern over other clubs.
Any team that wants to sign Wirtz will have to break the bank. Bayer Leverkusen have handed him a contract extension to stay beyond his current tenure, which ends in 2027. However, if they have to sell their brightest talent then a transfer fee around €150 million could be required.
Overall, he has featured in 40 matches this season across competitions, netting 15 goals and contributing 12 assists. He has played in 27 Bundesliga matches this season, registering 19 goal contributions (9G, 10A). Only Bayern’s Michael Olise (11 assists) has more assists than him in the Bundesliga.
