Carlo Ancelotti on Real Madrid future: ‘I hope I can stay as long as possible’

Carlo Ancelotti has shared his thoughts on his future at Real Madrid amid rumors surrounding a possible dismissal.

Real Madrid are having a tougher season than expected, and Los Blancos were recently eliminated from the Champions League quarter-final for the first time in 21 seasons.

Ancelotti is in his second managerial stint at the Santiago Bernabeu and has overall won 15 trophies with Madrid. Despite his achievements, the Italian coach has been on the receiving end of criticism this season as results have not been in Madrid’s favor despite having a star-studded squad.

Following the Champions League elimination, several reports surfaced which suggested that Ancelotti’s journey at Real Madrid is to end soon while heavily linking the 65-year-old as the next head coach of the Brazil national team.

Recently, Bayer Leverkusen chief confirmed that they will be open to parting ways with head coach Xabi Alonso if the Spaniard wants. The 43-year-old manager is rumored to be Real Madrid’s first choice as their next manager.

Amid these reports and rumors, Ancelotti, whose contract at Madrid is valid for one more season, has given his take on the situation while speaking ahead of their upcoming La Liga clash.

What did Carlo Ancelotti say about his future at Real Madrid?

Real Madrid are back in action on Wednesday as they will face Getafe in La Liga at Coliseum Stadium. During his pre-match conference, Ancelotti expressed (comments via Real Madrid Confidential) that he would like to be with the Spanish giants ‘as long as possible.’

“In soccer, anything is possible, anything can happen. I don’t have revenge against anyone. I love this bench, I hope I can stay as long as possible. When this ends, I will thank and take my hat off to this club,” he said.

Ancelotti also mentioned that while it is challenging he still believes that Real Madrid can still win trophies this season.

“The two titles we have in play besides the Club World Cup depend on beating Barcelona. We have confidence in being able to achieve it. Obviously, we have to change things, and we will,” he said.

“I’m very well with the club, it has been a more complicated year than the last. Together we handle the difficulties, and I am very happy, very happy, and with a lot of pressure, it’s always like that. Stress is fuel for me,” added Ancelotti.

Real Madrid are currently second in the La Liga table with 69 points. They are four points behind table-toppers Barcelona, while both clubs have six league matches remaining in the season.

The Spanish archrivals are set to face each other in the Copa del Rey final on April 26.
