How Phillies star Trea Turner helped Bryce Harper pull off gender reveal with custom bat

MLB star Bryce Harper enlisted some help from a teammate to pull off an epic gender reveal last week.

The Philadelphia Phillies’ first baseman announced that his fourth child will be a baby boy during his game against the San Francisco Giants on Monday, April 14. Bryce, 32, carried a blue bat into the batter’s box to signal the baby’s gender.

His teammate, Phillies shortstop Trea Turner, was credited with handing him the blue bat before he stepped out onto the field.

On Monday afternoon, Bryce’s wife, Kayla Harper,  shared some insight on Instagram into why Trea Turner was recruited to help reveal the baby’s gender.

“We wanted to be surprised and find out together, so we recruited Trea for some help. The doctor texted him the news and he was given two bats—one pink, one blue,” Kayla wrote.

“Right before Bryce’s first at-bat, Trea gave him the bat that matched the baby’s gender. We’re so excited to add another boy to the family to even us out.”

The MLB WAG included several photos of her husband and his teammate standing side by side while holding pink and blue baseball bats in the Phillies’ dugout.

Phillies fans praise Bryce Harper for creative gender reveal

Fans quickly praised the MLB star for the creative way he shared the news.

“This is the greatest,” one person commented.

“Trea look so happy for him and to be able to help him,” another person wrote.

“This is insanely cool. Finding out in real time with 50,000 of your closest friends is awesome,” someone else said.

In a statement after the game, Turner also praised Bryce for his creativity.

“I think it was pretty cool. He’s a pretty creative guy. He let us know in our team meeting,” Turner said, according to the MLB website.

“He kind of wanted to share the moment with everybody. He was nice enough to ask me to do it. I thought it was a nice moment for him and his family. I think they were all watching here from up top,” he added.

Bryce married his wife, Kayla, who was his college sweetheart, in 2016.

They’re already the parents of three kids, Krew Aron, Brooklyn Elizabeth, and Kamryn Ray.
