Justin Blackmon arrest

Blackmon was arrested Saturday in Payne County, Oklahoma, and charged with public intoxication.  Payne County is in the area of Oklahoma State University, where Blackmon became an elite NFL prospect as a wide receiver.

Blackmon’s arrest comes after he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in December 2024.

Oklahoma State also announced he would be inducted into its Cowboy Football Ring of Honor on Nov. 15, 2025.

Justin Blackmon NFL draft

Blackmon was selected by the Jaguars with the fifth overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, taken after Andrew Luck (Colts), Robert Griffin III (Washington), Trent Richardson (Browns) and Matt Kalil (Vikings).

Jacksonville traded up with Tampa Bay to land Blackmon, and he became the highest-drafted player out of Oklahoma State since Barry Sanders.

Blackmon had a standout rookie season, totaling 865 receiving yards, but off-the-field issues derailed his career from there. In June 2012, he was arrested for driving under the influence in Stillwater, Oklahoma. In April 2013, he was suspended four games for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy, and he also underwent groin surgery soon after.

Blackmon returned to the field initially, then was suspended indefinitely for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy for a second time. He was arrested in July 2014 for possession of marijuana.

The wide receiver applied to be reinstated by the league in 2015, but was denied, and the Jaguars expected him to never play for the team again. He was arrested in December 2015 for another DUI in Oklahoma.
