Is Jonathan Kuminga injured? Warriors forward buried on bench for game 1 vs Rockets

The Golden State Warriors are one of the deepest teams in the NBA, playing 10 guys on an average night.

One player who has unexpectedly been taken out of that rotation? Jonathan Kuminga.

The Warriors forward hasn’t played more than 25 minutes in a game since March 17. Kuminga didn’t log a minute in a key Golden State play-in win over Memphis to clinch the seven seed.

When the Warriors acquired Jimmy Butler, Kuminga was out with an ankle injury. The team went on a hot stretch with Butler and when Kuminga was healthy, he was the odd man out of the rotation. But is that injury lingering now and causing Kuminga’s absence from the rotation?

Is Jonathan Kuminga injured?

No, Jonathan Kuminga is not injured. The game 1 injury report for Warriors-Rockets had no players listed for Golden State.

The last time Kuminga got hurt in a game was March 30 versus the Spurs. He landed awkwardly and did not return to the contest.

The forward returned on April 3 against the Lakers, but has since seen his minutes decrease.

Kuminga saw no minutes in a key overtime loss to the Clippers to end the regular season. He was spotted after the game putting up shots and looked to be at 100%.

So when will Kuminga return to playing meaningful basketball? It seems until the Warriors struggle or have a need, he will continue to ride the bench.
