The New Orleans Saints have emerged as a team potentially in need of adding a quarterback following the recent reports of Derek Carr’s shoulder injury.
While the extent of Carr’s injury has yet to be revealed, there’s a chance New Orleans could be without its starting quarterback for the start of the season. If that’s the case, the Saints may need to explore some free-agent options as they look to compete in a wide-open NFC South.
Currently the biggest name on the market, four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers has yet to make his decision on whether he will continue playing or opt for retirement. Given the Saints new need for a quarterback, Katherine Terrell of ESPN proposed Rodgers as a potential option for New Orleans to consider.
“If New Orleans were to bring in Rodgers, it would have to be willing to pay both him and Carr in 2025. While the Saints have the cap space to do it, they might not want to invest significant capital in two quarterbacks who might not be long-term options,” Terrell wrote. “Rodgers said he has told teams he will play for $10 million and hasn’t made a long-term deal a requirement.”
If Rodgers were actually willing to play for $10 million, or something along those lines, New Orleans could probably make it work. However, it’s more likely they roll with Spencer Rattler, Jake Haener and/or a rookie quarterback.

Rodgers has been linked mostly to the Pittsburgh Steelers throughout the offseason so it would be a surprise if the Saints entered the sweepstakes.
With that said, the Saints opted to forgo a rebuild despite bringing in a new coaching staff. That decision could suggest the front office would be more willing to take on a one-year deal for Rodgers in order to compete in 2025 and maximize the win-now moves they already made this offseason.
A move like this likely won’t be made until after the NFL draft so all eyes will be on New Orleans’ decisions during the biggest weekend of the offseason.
