Mets’ Francisco Lindor delivers magnificent walk-off home run with perfect bat drop

Francisco Lindor knew it as soon as he hit it.

So did everyone at Citi Field.

The New York Mets had been tied as the pitch approached home plate. But when the baseball left the bat in a 4-4 bottom of the ninth, this thing wasn’t tied anymore.

Lindor just dropped his bat and watched as the tiny white orb soared into the lit-up night.

The drive soared all the way into the right-field upper deck, marking Lindor’s first walk-off home run with the Mets and sparking a brilliant celebration.

The Cardinals had led for the early portion of the night, opening up a 2-0 lead after four innings.

In the fifth, though, Tyrone Taylor tripled in a run and Juan Soto singled in another.

Nolan Arenado put the Cards right back ahead with an RBI hit in top six before Mark Vientos drilled a solo homer in bottom six.

Luis Torrens’ RBI single actually put the Mets up 4-3 in the bottom of the eighth, but then Brendan Donovan homered to tie it 4-4 in the top of the ninth.

But Lindor, leading off the bottom of the ninth, had no intention of letting the game go any further. On the third pitch he saw, Lindor called game.

He had been 0-for-4 before the swing, a classic example of the 1-for-5 ballgame where you go home with a huge smile on your face.

Lindor was the hero the Mets needed, and with $765 million man Juan Soto watching from the on-deck circle, New York’s shortstop sent everyone at Citi Field home happy.
